Deoband: Expressing concern over the passage of triple talaq bill in Lok Sabha, Secretary Darul Uloom Deoband Maulana Abul Qasim Nomani said the bill is the worst joke with Muslim women and law. Strongly condemning the move, he termed it interference in religious affairs.
Meanwhile, Welfare Party of India has termed the passage of triple talaq bill in Lok Sabha as an election stunt of BJP and appeasement of communal elements. National president of the party and member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board Dr Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas in a press note said a civil matter is made a criminal one. He asked utterance of such talaq, as per law, is meaningless. How can such meaningless utterance be a serious criminal offence and the husband needs to go to jail when the marriage is subsisting and valid? Why is the husband liable for punishment for a “crime” that effectively does not take place?
