New Delhi: Chairman Delhi Minority Commission Dr Zafarul Islam declared the ordinance which criminalises triple talaq as meaningless. He says as per the Muslim Personal Law (Shariat) Application Act passed by the Britishers which is also called as Shariah Act or Mohammedan Law, Muslims are provided complete freedom in religious affairs. Ulama’s opinion is upheld in Shariah matters. This Act is implemented still today.
Dr Zafarul Islam said, if the triple talaq ordinance is challenged in Supreme Court it can be annulled. Dr Zafarul Islam said that these are all political tactics. The government thinks that this way it can gain the sympathy of at least Muslim women and get their votes but this sympathy will cost it dear. It has opened the path to interfere in shariah. Tomorrow it can also interfere in the construction of masjid and other matters.
