TRS takes shelter of reservation issues to save its secular image, writes letter to Center

Hyderabad: Vexed with the allegations leveled against TRS for benefiting BJP in the name of formation of the Third Front, CM of TS, Mr. KCR is making an attempt to maintain secular image of his party under the pretext of raising the reservation issues for Muslims and Tribals. In this regard, he has sent a letter once again to the Central Govt.

It may be mentioned that Central Govt. had returned the proposals of 12% reservation for Muslims and 10% for Tribals even though State Assembly and Council had passed resolutions in this connection. Centre cited the ruling of the Supreme Court that reservations should not exceed 50% ceiling. A long period has elapsed after the negative reply of Centre reached the State.

TRS Govt. has once again started this issue and as a formality, a letter was sent to Central Govt. whereas KCR had earlier declared that he would launch a campaign against the Central Govt.

Due to the efforts of KCR for the formation of the Third Front, an impression has been created that TRS is supporting BJP indirectly. In order to wipe out these charges, TRS revoked reservation issue.

Legal experts opine that after the rejection of reservation issue by the Central Govt., the only choice left for the State Govt. is to knock at the door of the Supreme Court. KCR had also declared earlier that he would approach the Supreme Court but no progress was made in this regard. On the contrary, a formal letter was sent to the Central Govt. in order to appease the Muslims and the Tribals. BJP has already cleared its stand that it will not support reservation issue since it involves violation of the ruling of the Supreme Court.

It may be noted that TS Govt. had recommended for the enhancement of prevailing 4% reservation for Muslims and 6% for Tribal to 12% and 10% respectively. Accordingly, a bill was passed by the State Assembly and Council. The proposal was sent by CM after consulting Law Dept. In its proposal, TS Govt. contended that this enhancement in reservations has been necessitated due to the increase in population of these two groups.
