Hyderabad: The suspicions of the people on the functioning of EVMs still remain. Election Commission has maintained silence and no attempts were made to clarify these doubts. The results of Telangana State Assembly polls were quite contrary to the predictions of the exit polls.
It may be mentioned that despite negative predictions of the exit polls, TRS was successful in three-fourth Assembly constituencies.
It remains to be clarified how the statistics at the end of polling did not tally with the number of votes counted. These are the questions which Election Commission has to respond.
Mr. Rajat Kumar, Chief Electoral Officer had given an assurance that appropriate steps would be taken to probe into this case to verify the difference between the number of votes polled and the total number of votes counted.
If there is no scope for tampering with EVMs, how is it possible that the number of votes counted exceeded the number of votes polled?
According to the statistics furnished by various political parties, there are nearly 40 Assembly constituencies in which TRS candidates won the elections. These constituencies are Ibrahimpatnam, Khammam, Kodad, Tungaturti, Suryapet etc.
For instance, in Ibrahimpatnam, TRS candidate won the seat with a margin of 376 votes whereas, at the time of counting, more than 800 votes were found in excess of the number of votes polled. EC had released the statistics about the number of votes polled but on the date of counting, there is a difference in statistics. How is it possible that these statistics have changed?
Congress party has taken a decision to approach the court. It remains to be seen how election commission defends.
