Twin suicide attack in Baghdad kill dozens, wounded many more

BAGHDAD: Dozens of people killed and and at least 80 others wounded in back-to-back suicide attacks that took place at Baghdad’s al-Tayaran Square during rush hour on Monday morning.

The twin bombing attack came after a suicide bomber blew himself on Saturday at a checkpoint near Aden Square in northern Baghdad where eight people were killed and ten injured.

Iraqi Interior Ministry spokesman Saad Maan in a statement announced that at least 24 people were killed and an estimated 90 injured. The number of casualties often varies following explosions.

Dr Abdel Ghani al-Saadi, health chief for east Baghdad, reported “26 dead and 90 wounded”.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

In December, the government announced the “end of the war” against Daesh, which has been expelled from the Baghdad region and urban areas of Iraq that it controlled.
