Hyderabad: Two ex-students of Hyderabad University have been arrested on Saturday by the East Godavari police of Andhra Pradesh for allegedly conspiring to kill University vice-chancellor V Appa Rao. The duo has been suspected to plan the murder to avenge Dalit student Rohith Vemula’s suicide.

The two have been identified as Ankala Prudviraj (27), a native of Krishna district and Chandan Kumar Mishra (28) of West Bengal’s Howrah. According to a report by India Today, they were held while allegedly returning from Bastar forests after getting trained under FTP Maoists leadership. The duo is also suspected to have met Yapa Narayana, the secretary of Telangana State Committee of CPI (Maoist) in Bastar.

Rohith Vemula had committed suicide in a hostel room after being expelled from the hostel by authorities in 2016.
