UAE violating human rights, NGOs gathered at Geneva

Geneva: Demanding UAE to comply with international standards with regards to human rights, the Human rights NGOs on Wednesday gathered at the UN headquarters in Geneva, Analdolu reported.

The NGOs expressed concern over abuse of human rights such as systematic touter, arbitrary detentions in UAE.

Julia Legner, an international legal expert working with Geneva-based Alkamara NGO said severe human rights abuses like the torture and arbitrary arrests are still going on in the UAE.

“We are continuously concerned about human rights abuse in UAE,” she said, adding that the local authorities are hampering the investigations.

The UN Human Rights Office on Tuesday reported that a number of Yemeni detainees were subjected to ill-treatment, torture and sexual abuse by the UAE soldiers.
