Umar Khalid attack, Delhi police arrest two Hariyana men

The Delhi Police has detained two men accused of attacking Jawaharlal Nehru University student Umar Khalid. Earlier, the two had released a video on social media claiming to have attacked Khalid.

Darvesh Shahpur and Naveen Dala, hailing from Haryana, had claimed responsibility for the attack in a video that went viral on social media. They claimed that they had carried out the attack to punish ‘anti-nationals’ like Khalid.
Umar Khalid was attacked outside the Constitution Club of India in New Delhi on August 13. Khalid was outside the club when an unknown man allegedly fired a gun at him. He escaped unhurt. The assailant fled from the spot and dropped his weapon behind.

A day later, CCTV footage of the assailant was released.
Last week, Khalid had also posted a photo of the supposed attacker (resembling one of the youth in the video). “The person, who attacked me, is editor-in-chief of Sudarshan News, Suresh Chavhanke. No Further comments,” he wrote with the photo.
