Hyderabad: CPI National General Secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy today welcomed the Law Commission recommendation that “there is no need for Uniform Civil Code now”. It is a significant recommendation and needs a discussion he said in a statement here. Reddy said that the Commission is rightly commented that “United Nation does not necessarily need to have uniformity.” Efforts have to be made to reconcile our diversity with universal and indisputable arguments on human rights.”
The comment on secularism said, “has meaning only if it assures the expression of any form difference.” This diversity both religious and regional should not get subsided under the louder voice of majority. He said that the Law Commission recommendation that discriminatory practices should not take shelter under religious faith. He opposed the Law Commission recommendation on simultaneous elections which is harmful for states autonomy and federalism in a democratic set up. CPI also rejects Law Commission’s earlier recommendation to legalise betting and gambling.
