UPSC CSE: Meet Rehana Bashir the first Gujjar woman to crack the exam

New Delhi: UPSC announced the final ranks based on the results of the written part of Civil Services Examination, 2018 held by the UPSC in September-October, 2018 and the interviews for Personality Test held in February-March, 2019. A total number of 759 candidates have been recommended for appointment in Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service and Central Services.

According to the report published in Indian Express, Dr. Rehana Bashir became the first Gujjar woman to crack one of the toughest exams of the country.

Dr. Bashir got 187th rank. She belongs to Salwah Village in Jammu and Kashmir’s border Poonch District.

It may be mentioned that seven youths from Jammu region have cleared the exam and she is one of them.

Dr. Bashir who had completed her MBBS from Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura in Kashmir in 2016 decided to join administrative service during her internship.

Her inspiration is her younger brother, Amir Bashir who is an IRS officer.

Expressing his view over the success of Rehana Bashir, Javed Rahi, Head of the Gujjar Desh Charitable Trust said that it indicates that Gujjar Community is getting empowered. Every year, 2-3 youths of the community clear the exam, he added.

In the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Gujjar is the third largest ethnic community after Kashmiris and Dogras.
