US airport renamed after boxing legend Muhammad Ali

Washington: The US city of Louisville in Kentucky State renamed its airport after hometown hero and boxing legend Muhammad Ali.

It may be mentioned that in the month of January 2019 when the proposal was announced, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer had said that Ali is the inspiration for billions of people around the world.

Muhammed Ali

Muhammed Ali was an American professional boxer, activist and philanthropist. He was the native of Louisville, Kentuky. He won his first gold medal in the light heavyweight division at the age of 18.

Around a year later, he embraced Islam.

In 1964, he won the world heavyweight championship.

Mr. Ali was arrested when he refused to be drafted into the military. His boxing titles were also stripped. However, he appealed in Supreme Court where he won the case.

In 2016, Mr. Ali passed away.
