Use Metro train to curb pollution: Guv

Hyderabad: Governor ESL Narasimhan today flagged off the much-awaited 16km long Ameerpet-LB Nagar Metro train and traveled in it along with ministers and officials, including Chief Secretary SK Joshi, HMR MD NVS Reddy, GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore, Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar and others. Those also traveled in the Metro Rail include Ministers KTR, Nayini Narsimha Reddy, Padma Rao Goud, Srinivas Yadav, MPs Malla Reddy, Danam Nagender, Sports Academy chairman A Venkateshwar Reddy and others.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor expressed satisfaction at the new facility that would bring down pollution problem and avoid traffic chaos besides giving a smart drive without any hiccups in stipulated time.

“This journey will also not cause traffic problem to Ambulance and emergency services”, he said. The Governor also asked the HMR officials to complete the Hitec City metro rail by December 15 and maintain clean and green at all the stations. The Governor stressed the need for using the new metro as it will check pollution and traffic problems besides providing a hassle-free drive to the destinations of the people. He asked the HMR and L&T Consortium officials to ensure that one smart card is used by the public for availing all the facilities at the metro stations.

“The people should make use of this facility and ensure that the environs are kept clean”, the Governor said. The 16km long stretch of Ameerpet and LB Nagar regularly witnesses heavy rush and will cater to the needs of wide gamut of people to reach their destinations in a jiffy, he averred.

Speaking on the occasion, KT Rama Rao said the Hyderabad Metro Rail facility was the best in the country after Delhi Metro Station. The project has been taken up in Public Private Transport (PPP) mode and was the biggest and 46 stations have come into use for the people of the city with LB Nagar-Ameerpet Metro line launch, he said.

He also said every facility has been provided in all metro stations that have been launched so far. “We have used high-end technology and completed the works of the metro rail in a record time. However, KTR admitted that the launch of Ameerpet-LB Nagar Metro was delayed by about a month due to security permissions.
