Lucknow: A villager from Barabanki sued doctors of the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), for stealing his kidney while he was getting treated for kidney stones.
Thirty-nine-year-old, Sanjay Kumar was informed by the doctors prior to the treatment that the kidney needed to be removed. As per the institute, it was an attempt to malign the name of the hospital, reported ht.
The chief judicial magistrate (CJM) of Barabanki asked the police to investigate and file a report on May 17.
In the lawsuit by Kumar, he had approached the hospital on having an acute pain in April 2015. A surgery was then performed on April 23, 2015, which was suggested by a surgeon Anish Srivastava and Kumar was diagnosed with a 20 mm stone.
After he was discharged, he repeatedly visited the hospital as the pain was persistent. He also named the team of doctors including Srivastava who performed the surgery.
“I went to court after the SGPIMS administration and the district magistrate failed to respond to my complaint,” he said.
Besides, Kumar’s relatives were shown the biopsy report of the kidney and they had signed papers before the surgery that mentioned clearly that the organ would be taken out, he said.
“It’s a shame that some people fail to appreciate the good work of doctors … if false allegations continue, doctors will have to think twice before surgery,” said the doctors.
Another similar case happened at King George’s Medical University. Prithviraj, a Barabanki resident accused the doctors of stealing one of his kidneys. The doctors had denied any such charges.
