Violence in UP’s Meerut: 150 shanties burnt, many vehicles damaged

Meerut: Mob bunt more than 150 shanties and damaged over two dozen cars after local authorities launched anti-encroachment drive in Sadar Bazar of Meerut, UP.

According to the report published in India Today, two-wheelers and buses were also destroyed after concerned authorities tried to conduct anti-encroachment drive in Bhusa Mandi.

As per the police report, miscreants had burnt jhuggies. This incident occurred after police arrested four persons for agitation against the drive.

Traffic was also distributed as agitating crowd increased rapidly from Bhusa Mandi to Mahtab Theatre.

Hindus and Muslims are blaming each other for starting the fire. The situation is under control, police said.

As per the statements of the victims, in the incident, they lost their valuable articles. Some victims said that they lost furniture meant for their daughters’ marriages.
