Wi-Fi service suspended near EVMs after hacking complaints in Surat

Surat: After Congress candidate, Ashok Jariwala, made complaints of possible EVM hacking, the Wi-Fi service at a college in Surat was suspended.

The electronic voting machines were used in the recently held Gujarat Assembly polls and were kept in Gandhi Engineering College’s campus, situated at Athwa Lines locality in Surat.

On receiving such complaints, Surat Collector and District Election Officer Mahendra Patel had ordered the college authorities to suspend Wi-Fi service.

“The Wi-Fi service they are talking about is of the college and meant for students, and we understand that there is no possibility of EVM tampering using it. However, to dispel their doubt, we have ordered its suspension,” the collector said.

Early today, Patidar leader, Hardik Patel had tweeted that if a human body, made by God, could be tampered with, then why not an EVM, which is made by humans?

In his yesterday post on Twitter, Patel had claimed that 150 software engineers of an Ahmedabad-based company were preparing to hack 5,000 EVMs.
