Jammu: A woman, who had duped many people here on the pretext of giving them suitable interest for money to be deposited with her, was arrested here on Monday, police said.
A statement issued by the Crime Branch said that its officials had arrested Pinky Gupta, alias Saroj, wife of Shiv Gupta of Rehari area in connection with an FIR filed in 2015 accusing her of taking “huge money from gullible people of Jammu city on the pretext of providing suitable interest rates against the money deposited with her”.
She was at large after committing the crime and was reportedly residing in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad.
“Officials of Crime Branch Jammu developed inputs about her presence and laid a trap for her arrest from Jammu City today,” it said, adding that she has admitted to “having duped people of their hard earned money by way of deception”.
