Women shine in 7th Convocation of MANUU

Hyderabad: Women graduates rose with flying colours in 7th Convocation of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) held today, as a total of 65 percent graduates in distance mode and 22.6 percent in the regular mode were women.

Lauding the achievements of the University in last 20 years, Chief Guest Dr S.Y. Quraishi said, “7th Convocation of MANUU is a fitting display of what MANUU has achieved and what it is capable of.”

“The University has made catalytic progress in terms of providing education from school to higher education levels, to the people with Urdu background with lots of attention given to women education,” noted the Former Chief Election Commissioner of India. He observed that the university was fast becoming a convergent point of educational, social, cultural, and national activities in our country.

“I feel the achievements and progress of MANUU are a fitting tribute to the education policies of Maulana Azad,” Dr Quraishi remarked. He also spoke about the uniqueness and plural character of Urdu Language, expressed his dismay about the backwardness of the Muslim community in the field of education and stressed upon the importance of democracy and the power of vote. Senior former bureaucrat also paid rich tribute to the secular fabric of Indian society which has withstood the test of history.

Speaking on the occasion at Global Peace Auditorium, MANUU Vice-Chancellor Dr Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz revealed that the University awarded 2,288 degrees in regular mode and 21,152 degrees in distance mode. There were 50 PhDs, 94 M. Phils, 811 Postgraduates and 1133 undergraduates in regular mode in various disciplines.

The vice-chancellor also said that the University focused on women education as part of its constitutional mandate and provided various measures that increased their enrolment from 22% to 34% during the current academic year.

“The University has 4554 regular students on its rolls, and has its presence in 11 States”, Dr Parvaiz said while adding that it offers 24 PhD programs, 25 PG programs, 18 UG programs in addition to 8 Diploma and 5 Certificate programs. MANUU is the first central university to adopt e-procurement and GeM (Government e-marketplace), the Vice-Chancellor said.

Prof. G. Gopal Reddy, Member UGC, Guest of Honour, Prof. Shakeel Ahmad, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Dr. M. A. Sikandar, Registrar and Prof. Sajid Jamal, Controller of Examination were also present on the Dias.
