Washington: Janet Yellen has expressed disappointment that United States President Donald Trump did not propose her a second term

as Federal Reserve chair.

In an interview, Yellen said that Fed chairs generally receive a second term even when they were first nominated by a president of the other party, reported The Guardian on Sunday.

“I made clear that I would be willing to serve another term and so yes, I do feel a sense of disappointment,” The Guardian quoted her as saying.

Yellen was appointed by former President Barack Obama as the first woman to lead the Fed.

She, however, supports her successor Jerome Powell, who will take over on Monday.

Lauding Powell as a ” thoughtful policymaker”, she said that he is “balanced and dedicated to public service”.

Yellen’s four-year term ended on Friday and she will now be a part of the Brookings Institution think tank. (ANI)
