“Yes for 12% Muslim reservation” campaign crosses 2 lakh mark

“One Million Yes for 12% Muslim Reservation in Telangana” campaign, launched by Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee (Minorities Department), is receiving tremendous response among the Muslim masses. Nearly one lakh Muslims signed the petition after Friday prayers today, claimed GHCC Minorities Dept Chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail.

“We have been conducted door-to-campaign in several areas and collected signatures on all major streets of Hyderabad and Secunderabad since we launched the campaign on April 4. So far, we have gathered over two lakh signatures in different modes. The response to online and mobile campaign is tremendous,” Abdullah Sohail said. He informed that Imams and Khateebs of more than 100 important mosques in the twin cities have made an appeal during their Friday Khuta asking Muslims to support the 12% reservation campaign. Subsequently, the Congress workers were able to collect more than one lakh signatures after Friday prayers today, he said.

Abdullah Sohail said that “One Million Yes for 12% Muslim Reservation in Telangana” had no political or hidden agenda. “We simply want Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and TRS Government to fulfill its election promise. The community has seen the benefits of 4% Muslim reservation. If the reservation percentage gets increased to 12%, then all socially and economically backward Muslims in Telangana would get equal growth opportunities. This campaign is aimed at creating awareness among the masses so as to involve them in pressurising the government to provide 12% reservation in a time-bound manner,” he said.

The Congress leader praised Siasat Urdu Daily News Editor Amer Ali Khan for extending his support to the campaign. “Siasat Urdu Daily has already sensitised the entire community on this issue. For the same reasons, people in large numbers are coming forward to sign the petition,” he said. He also thanked Jamiat-ul-Ulema and other organizations for supporting the campaign.

Meanwhile, GHCC General Secretary Syed Nizamuddin has been assigned the responsibility of leading the teams involved in compilation, digitisation and analysis of all the signatures coming in different modes. Besides signing the hard copy, thousands of people have expressed their support by sending mail to “yesformuslimreservation@gmail.com“. Similarly, over 20,000 SMS and WhatsApp messages have been received on the number “+91 7842 369 212”. “We will be promoting the FaceBook Page “Yes for 12% Muslim Reservation” and online petition so as to get more response from the net users,” said Syed Nizamuddin.

“We are quite confident of reaching One Million mark before April 20 when we plan to hand over the collected signatures in the form of a CD to the Chief Minister,” said Abdullah Sohail. (INN)
