Hyderabad: Actor Irfan Khan has sparked off controversy by his comment on the traditions of fasting during Ramadan and sacrifice during Baqra’eid.
In an interview, Irfan Khan said that people should self-introspect instead of fasting. He also went on to say that sacrificing animals is also pointless as the concept behind Qurbani is to sacrifice something close to you. The actor further added that nowadays religious activities are of no use as people perform them without knowing the actual message behind them.
Commenting on Muharram, the actor lamented that people celebrate it like a festival although it is meant for mourning.
Irfan also slammed Muslim leaders for not speaking up on the issue of terrorism.
All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) member, Zafaryab Jilani condemned the actor by saying that he is not a religious leader and his advice is not needed.
