Noor-e-Omar: Girl named in memory of father died in NZ attack

In memory of the father Mohammad Omar Faruk, and the mosque Masjid Al Noor in Christchurch, a baby girl was named as Noor-e-Omar.

First Child Of Shooting Victims

Noor-e-Omar was born on Tuesday, August 27 is the first child of shooting victims to be born since the attack, NZ Herald reported.

She has been given the unique name in memory of the father (Omar) she will never meet and the mosque where he lost his life (Al Noor).

20-year-old Neha, wife of 36-year-old Omar was pregnant when he tragically got shot dead at the Christchurch city mosque Masjid Al Noor on March 15.

Since the tragic scenes unfolded in March, a PhD student from the University of Canterbury has taken the young mother and another Bangladesh widow.

“Neha [the mother] remained very upset throughout her delivery time and kept on crying for Omar. New Zealand owes a lot to this little one,” the student said.

Dreams Shattered

Three years before his death, Omar arrived in New Zealand on a skilled migration visa.

“We were so excited and happy. We had so many dreams together, for our family,” the mother of a newly born little girl said.

Mosque Massacre

Fifty-one people were killed in the shootings at Al-Noor and Linwood mosques in the South Island city after Brenton Tarrant, a suspected white supremacist from Australia, stormed into two mosques during congregational prayers and indiscriminately opened fire on the assembled

The 28-year-old faces 51 charges of murder and 40 of attempted murder, as well as the terrorism charge.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern vowed in the hours after the March 15 killings that New Zealand’s gun laws would be tightened and her government has expedited the change in just three months.
