NPR-NRC can turn Indians into doubtful citizens: Asaduddin

Hyderabad: Asaduddin Owaisi, President of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and Hyderabad MP explained how National Population Register (NPR) data can be used in the creation of National Register of Citizens (NRC). He also explained how an officer can turn persons into doubtful citizens.

NPR to NRC

Addressing a public meeting, Owaisi said that during the NPR exercise, officials will ask the date and place of birth of the residents which will be later used for NRC.

During the process, an officer can mark a citizen as doubtful, he added.

CAA

It may be mentioned that ever since the Parliament passed the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019, there is unrest in the entire country over the apprehension of NRC.

Due to CAA, some political leaders presume that non-Muslims can claim citizenship even if they don’t have supportive documents. However, it is not that simple.

As per a few analysts, non-Muslims have to prove that they are from Pakistan or Afghanistan or Bangladesh if they want to claim benefits of CAA.

Rally in favour of CAA, NRC

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took out a rally in favour of the CAA and NRC. The rally was taken out in Uppal.

The rally which was led by former BJP MLA NVSS Prabhakar began at Shivaji Statue and ended at Bharatmath Statue.
