NRC issue: BJP leadership worried

Kolkata: BJP which is pushing though the implementation of NRC in the election campaigns of three Assemblies now worried about the implementation of NRC.

It is expressing its apprehensions that it should not result in “Self Goal” for BJP.

It may be mentioned that in the recently held parliamentary election, BJP polled maximum number of votes in Kalia Gunj and Kharagpur Sadar constituencies but after a few month, it percentage of votes declined.

In Kareempur, TMC polled 50% votes. In Kareempur and Kalia Jung a large number of Bangladeshi Hindu refugees are inhabited.

BJP had made an attempt to lure them though the introduction of citizen’s Amendment Bill and NRC. But it backfired.

Vice president of West Bengal BJP, Mr. Chander Kumar Bose made an appeal to BJPP high command to reconsider the implementation NRC and CAB.

In his appeal, he mentioned that Pan-India strategy can’t be implemented on the land of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Swami Vivekananda. Mr. Chander Kumar Bose is the member of Netaji’s family.

He further assented that BJP should concentrate on strengthen BJP base in West Bengal rather than stressing on vote bank politics.

He pointed out that the voters of West Bengal are politically conscious. BJP, therefore, did not highlight NRC as an important issue but confusion was created among the public.

It may be noted that Mr. Kamal Chander Sarkar a BJP candidate for Kalia Gunj had alleged that the issue of NRC implementation was responsible for his defeat in election.

It may be borne in mind that in the Lok Sabha elections of 2019, BJP had made NRC a big issue and had promised that after the institution of BJP Govt. in the centre, NRC would be implemented at any cost.

TMC made propaganda of NRC in the context of Assam in which nearly 13 Lakh Bengali Hindu were excluded from the voters list. Whereas BJP had made an attempt to mislead the Hindus by saying that the target of NRC is the Muslim community.

TMC made an effort to make the people believe that more than the Muslims, the Hindus were unsuccessful in getting their names included in the voters list.

During Lok Sabha elections campaign, BJP had assured that before implementing NRC, CAB will be passed in the Parliament through which Hindu, Jain Buddhist and Christian refugees coming from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan would be given Indian Citizenship.
