Opposition’s hypocrisy to be blamed for passage of Triple Talaq

Opposition is in majority in Rajya Sabha. It could have made the government bite the dust. But it did not happen thanks to the disintegration of opposition parties. During the tabling of Triple Talaq Bill in Rajya Sabha members of some parties didn’t take part, while some staged walkout and some remained absent. Thus the bill was passed with 99 votes against 84. Had the opposition parties shown unity, government’s defeat was for sure.

While the hypocrisy of the opposition is responsible for the passage of the bill, Muslims are equally to be blamed. Islam’s family laws were on the radar since the Shah Bano Case. Had our elders prepared a ‘Code of Conduct’ this might not have happened.
