Hyderabad: The Osmania University hostel girls staged a dharna here on Friday and demanded the authorities to improve security at the hostel.
On Thursday, an unidentified man entered the women’s washroom on Osmania University campus brandishing a knife and threatened and misbehaved with a B.Tech student.
The university is responsible for the incident. There is no security for girls inside the hostel and in its vicinity, the students said.
Police said the girl student was in the washroom at around 3.10 am when the intruder lunged at her. He had scaled the walls of the premises to get inside.
The girls on the campus alleged that the university was responsible for the incident. There is no enough security for girls inside the hostel and in its vicinity, they said.
“At the hostel backside, the wall fencing the hostel is very short, that is towards Adikmet. Anyone can enter easily into the hostel from that side. The authorities should either increase the height of the wall or fix CCTV cameras for the protection of girls,” said Shanti, a PhD scholar.
Responding to the dharna, the university authorities assured the girls that the university will make sure the incident is not repeated.
