Overseas Scholarships for Minorities: Applications invited

Hyderabad: Finally, Govt. of Telangana released the notification for the overseas scholarship for minorities 2019. The scholarship is available for the eligible candidates who want to pursue Masters or Doctoral Studies abroad.

Eligibility:

The annual income of the family of the candidates should be less than 2 lakh. The age of the candidates should not be more than 35 in order to be eligible for the scheme.

Qualification:

For Post Graduate Course: The minimum percentage of the candidate should be 60 or equivalent grade in foundation Degree in Engineering / Management / Pure Sciences / Agriculture Sciences / Medicine and Nursing / Social Sciences / Humanities.

For Ph.D. Courses: The cut-off marks is 60% or equivalent grade in P.G. course in Engineering / Management / Pure Sciences / Agriculture Sciences / Medicine / Social Sciences / Humanities.

Apart from cut off, the candidates should have a valid TOEFL/IELTS/PTE & GRE/GMAT.

However, it may be mentioned that last year, the cut off has gone up to 69% because of heavy demand for the scholarship.

Number of scholarships:

Annually, 500 students will be selected out of which, 250 will be shortlisted in the first quarter, January-July 2019. In the second quarter, August-December, another 250 candidates will be selected.

Each candidate will get a scholarship of Rs. 20 lakh. Rs. 10 lakh will be paid after the candidate passes out the first semester. Candidates will also receive a one-way ticket after the first semester. Another Rs. 10 lakh will be paid after completion of the second semester.

The application of scholarship was started on 26th August. The last date is 27th September 2019.

It may be mentioned that countries eligible for this scheme are Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Scholarships last year:

Last year, 424 candidates have applied for the Overseas Scholarship, out of which, 250 were selected.

It may be noted that the candidate has to pay the fee out of his/her pocket, later, the government will reimburse the amount in two installments.  

Lethargic attitude of the Govt.

The Govt. has released the notification after the public put a lot of pressure. The notification has been delayed by eight months.
