Pakistan blasphemy case: Asia Bibi takes asylum in Canada

Asia Bibi has flown to Canada where she has reunited with her family. This was reported by her lawyer. Asia Bibi is a Christian woman who was sentenced to death in 2010 and put into prison for eight years for committing blasphemy. However, she was freed last year.

As reported by the Guardian, Saiful Malook told that Asia Bibi has left Pakistan and reached Canada. She has reunited with her family.

Bibi was accused of committing blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). She was in jail for eight years. However, she was released from prison last year after Pakistan’s top court acquitted her of blasphemy. The verdict which came on 31 October was vehemently protested, with highways blocked and stones pelted on police in cities including the capital, Islamabad, and Karachi.

Asia Bibi, a Roman Catholic from the village of Ittanwala near Lahore, had been offered asylum by Canada.
