Photos: Shutdown observed in parts of Valley against killing of three alleged militants

Srinagar: A partial shutdown was observed in parts of Valley on Friday against the killing of three alleged militants by security forces on December 30, 2020, in Srinagar. Most of the shops and business establishments were closed while there was no call for shut down by any group or traders. The traffic was, however, plying normally on roads across Srinagar.

The trio was killed in an encounter in the Lawaypora area of Srinagar outskirts. The families of the slain are claiming that the slain were civilians and had no connections with militants.

Police has refuted the claims made by the family.

Police in its statement issued on Friday said “Lawaypora Srinagar encounter started with army inputs and eventually fructified into a joint operation of Army, CRPF and Police. After the cordon was laid, militants lobbed grenade from inside and fired upon the search party. As per SOPs, the militants were repeatedly appealed to surrender, but instead of surrendering, they fired upon troops and eventually got neutralized in a fire-fight.”
