PM Modi mocked Congress with ‘high-flying’ jibe

NEW DELHI: Attacking Congress in his first speech in Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the grand old party’s members have “risen so high” that they are not being able to see the ground realities.

“The higher you become, the happier I will be,” PM Modi said. “The opposition can’t see the small things, they are uprooted from the ground, he said, asp er TOI reports. The Prime Minister said, “My friends in the Congress have not been able to digest our victory. They have not been able to accept defeat. This is not a healthy sign in a democracy.

Continuing his attack against Congress, PM Modi said, “From 2004 to 2014, not once did you mention the name of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. There are some people who feel only a few names contributed to national progress. They only want to hear those few names and ignore the others,” he said, as per The Indian Express reports.

“We think differently, we feel each and every citizen has worked for India’s progress… Did they ever speak about the good work of Narasimha Raoji? In this Lok Sabha debate, the same people did not even speak of Manmohanji.”

Defending his government, Modi said, “If you did (give credit), you would have given the Bharat Ratna to Narasimha Rao, to Manmohan Singh. We gave the Bharat Ratna to Pranab Mukherjee for his contribution to the nation.”

Riding on muscular nationalism and a strident anti-Congress plank, BJP stormed back to power by winning 303 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. Along with its allies, the numbers swelled up to 353. The Congress put up a poor show for the second consecutive time, managing only 52 seats.
