Police action on Jamia students triggers countrywide protests

New Delhi: Students of many universities throughout the country expressed their anger on the police action meted out to the protesting students of Jamia Millia Islamia who were agitating against the implementation of Citizenship Amendment Act.

Protest meetings were held in New Delhi, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai etc.

In the morning of Monday, thousands of students organized a massive march on the roads of New Delhi condemning the action taken by Delhi Police to curb the protest of Jamia Millia Islamia students. They also demanded a thorough inquiry of the police atrocities.

At Darul Uloom Nadvatul Ulema, slogans ‘say, we are one’ were raised. However, police confined the students to their campus.

The students of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) expressed their solidarity with the students of Jamia Millia Islamia and boycotted the university examinations.

BHU students condemn police action

The students of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and Jadhavpur University also joined the agitation and demanded the Govt. of India to constitute an inquiry commission to probe into the atrocities of the police.

A student of BHU told the media persons that to call the police action on Jamia Millia students, a ‘crackdown’ is a small word. It is in fact vandalism of the police which can be viewed on various videos posted on the social media.

TISS

The students of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Mumbai also condemned the police action against Jamia students and shouted ‘Shame, shame’.

The students of IIT, Madras staged mass scale dharna programme.

JNU students have also joined the agitation. A girl student, Hanzala showed the wound caused to her foot due to police action and started weeping.
