Ponguleti Sudhakar quits Congress in disgust, meets Narendra Modi

Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader and former secretary of AICC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy resigned from the party on Sunday. He addressed a letter to party supremo Rahul Gandhi mentioning the reasons that prompted him to quit the party. In his letter, Ponguleti alleged that the grand old party was being run by middlemen now. He also alleged that the middlemen didn’t allow him to voice his concerns to the party high command to improve the deteriorating situation in the State party.

Addressing mediapersons in New Delhi after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sudhakar Reddy said the State Congress leaders were selling party tickets by taking crores of rupees. He said there was no scope for the ordinary worker of the party to voice his concerns. Reddy urged the party president to intervene into the issue and set things right before irreparable damage was caused.

Stating that he was serving the party as a loyal soldier since the last 40 years, Ponguleti thanked Rahul Gandhi for giving him an opportunity to serve it for so long. Reddy said he took his political birth in the Congress four decades ago when he was a student. Lamenting that the Congress party has forgotten its traditions and values, Ponguleti said influence of money has increased in the allocation of party tickets. Commercialization of allotment of tickets in the Assembly, MLC and Lok Sabha elections pained him very much and forced him to leave the party.

Sudhaker Reddy slammed State party leaders for indulging in corrupt and immoral practices. He tried his best to convey the ground situation to the high command, but it was not possible due to the money minting middle men. He also very much pained with the attitude of the State party leadership and also inconsistent party stand on terrorism, national security and encouragement to the unscrupulous party leaders. He also said the party high command had failed to understand the sentiments of party workers. He felt that it was not proper to work with such irresponsible persons in the Congress.

He expressed his gratitude to Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Rahulji and Soniaji for giving him opportunities in the party. He said he would be serving the people of Telangana and the country as a patriotic citizen of India.
