Priyanka condoles death of children in Lucknow accident

New Delhi: Hours after two more bodies of children were taken out from a canal in Lucknow, taking to five the toll in Thursday’s accident, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday condoled the deaths and asked party workers to console the families.

“The news of the death of children in the accident that took place in a canal at Nagaram near Lucknow is saddening. My condolences are with the family members in the hour of grief. May God give them the power to endure these sufferings.

“Congress workers should reach out to the bereaved families and provide them consolation and support,” Priyanka Gandhi, who is in charge of party affairs in east UP, said in a series of tweets.

A SUV carrying 29 people fell into a canal in Lucknow around 3 a.m. on Thursday, and while the adults managed to escape, seven children were missing and were feared dead.

Teams of the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force on Friday recovered two bodies from the canal, after three found earlier.
