Bengaluru: In the aftermath of the Pulwama attack, Hyderabad-based Karachi Bakery in Bengaluru became the latest victim as a group of unidentified people on Friday held a mob protest outside an outlet of and the staff was forced to cover half of its signboard and also demanded to change its name.
According to the reports, a group of 20 to 25 men gathered in front of the Bengaluru’s Karachi bakery and started chanting slogans and asked its name be changed. The protesters forced the staff to cover the word ‘Karachi’ on the name board. This incident took place on Friday evening around 8-8.30 pm at Indiranagar.
However, no violence was reported as the staff covered the word ‘Karachi’ and displayed the Indian flag at the cafe.
“The mob stayed for about half an hour. They demanded us to change the name. The men claimed to know people in the Army. They thought we were from Pakistan. But we have been using this name for the last 53 years. The owners are Hindus; only the name is Karachi Bakery. To satisfy them, we put up the Indian flag” said the manager of the Karachi Bakery while speaking to the News Minute.
This comes after the February the deadliest terror attack on security forces in Kashmir has outraged the entire nation in which around 40 CRPF personnel were killed on Thursday when their convoy was targeted in Pulwama district on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.
The attack on Indian security forces immediately triggered revenge attacks against Kashmiris across India. Videos of mob attacks went viral on social media, prompting condemnation by the Indian National Human Rights Commission and Amnesty International, who asked India to ensure the safety of common Kashmiris.
