Pulwama Aftermath: More staff for Railway protection force in Kashmir

New Delhi: The number personnel in Kashmir’s Railway Protection Force (RPF) has increased to ensure the safety of train passengers and to protect railway property after the deadliest terror attack in Pulwama, a senior official of the force said.

This comes after the deadliest terror attack on security forces in Kashmir in which 49 CRPF personnel were killed when their convoy was targeted in Pulwama district on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Railway Protection Force senior officer DG Arun Kumar stated that “We had a meeting with the Ministry of Home Affairs yesterday where the decision was taken to increase the presence of RPF in the region.”

He further added that “The chairman railway board also had a detailed security briefing with all zonal and divisional RPF officers on the security of railways. It was decided that a company of RPF will be sent to Kashmir for additional security.”

In Kashmir, while four companies of the RPF are stationed, one more with 125 personnel, will be airlifted from Jammu to the area. To provide single point access to rail users in distress, the RPF has also upgraded its all India security helpline number 182 .
