Punjab: Rs 9.66 crore hawala money seized in Khanna city

Khanna city: In one of the biggest cash seizures in the state since the Model Code of Conduct came into force, the Khanna city police seized Rs 9.66 crore of alleged unaccounted hawala cash from three vehicles during regular security check on Friday.

Police claimed that as the occupants in the vehicle could not provide satisfactory explanations regarding the
source of the money, they seized the unaccounted cash and apprehended them.

Speaking to ANI, Dhruv Dahiya, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khanna city said: “Six persons have been apprehended and have been produced before the authorities. The case has been handed over to the Income Tax department investigation wing.”

It is should be noted that as per the Model Code of Conduct, which came into force on March 10, individuals are not allowed to keep more than Rs 50,000 in their possession.

Lok Sabha elections 2019 will be held in seven phases between April 11 and May 19. Results will be declared on May 23.

Punjab with 13 Lok Sabha seats goes to polls in a single phase. All the 13 constituencies will vote in the last and the seventh phase on May 19.
