Refusing to pay bribe Chief Engineer sets contractor on fire

Patna: Refusing to pay a bribe to a chief engineer proved fatal for a contractor in Bihar’s gopalgunj.

According to allegations, Water resource department Chief engineer had been demanding a bribe of Rs 15 lakh from the contractor in exchange for releasing payment of Rs 60 lakh to the deceased for his work as a contractor, TN reports.

On Thursday when the contractor visited the Chief Engineer’s office and demanded the payment, the accused and his associates allegedly poured kerosene oil on him and set him on fire.

The victim is currently undergoing treatment at the Gorakhpur Medical College.

Action against the accused was assured by the Police while the investigation is underway.
