Saudi Arabia: 25 more to be executed

Riyadh: After executing 37 prisoners in Saudi Arabia, 25 more Saudi citizens are likely to be executed. American news channel ‘CNN’ publishing a special report about 37 executed prisoners, hinted that some of the men condemned to death had made impassioned pleas to the courts in a bid to save their lives. Many said they were totally innocent, that their confessions had been written by the same people who had tortured them. Some said they were abused by their interrogators and claimed to have evidence too.

Saying that they carried out the crimes, Riyadh on Tuesday announced that 37 men had been executed, including three who were minors. According to report, one of the men was crucified after his execution, strung up and put on display as a warning to others.

Those who were executed include a 27-year-old, who was partially blind and deaf. The report also observed that most of the prisoners who were executed were members of the kingdom’s minority Shia community.

The executed men are said to have coordinated riots, organized anti-government propaganda, and were sometimes engaged in sexual relations with one another. Homosexuality is illegal in Saudi Arabia, which adheres to a strict interpretation of Sharia law.
