Saudi Arabia: Indian youth lands in jail for blasphemous tweet against Prophet

Alappuzha: Saudi Arabian court imprisoned a 28-year-old Indian youth for his blasphemous tweet against Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).

According to the report published in New Indian Express, the judge sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment and imposed a fine of around Rs. 30 lakh.

As per the details, Vishnu Dev, an engineer who was working in Nasser S. Al Hajri Corporation, a subsidiary of Aramco Oil Company had tweeted against Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).

Giving the details, his father, Radhakrishnan Nair who is a former Air Force Officer said that his son and a London-based Muslim woman had become friends. His son tweeted against Prophet after woman tweeted against Lord Shiva, Nair added.

It may be mentioned that earlier, lower court had sent Vishnu to jail for 5 years and imposed a fine of Rs. 1.5 lakh Saudi Riyal. However, on 24th January, the higher court sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment.

It may be noted that Vishnu Dev is a native of Alappuzha, Kerala.

Nair said that earlier, he had approached External Affairs Minister and various MPs.

Vishnu’s family is planning to knock the doors of Saudi rulers.
