Saudi Arabia might discontinue issuing Labour Visa

Riyadh: Mr. Nayef-al-Umair, Director of Visa Verification in the Ministry of Labour of Saudi Arabia told that Govt. of Saudi Arabia is working on a scheme which may result in the cancellation of labour visas.

He told this in a workshop organized by Chamber of Commerce in Al-Sharqui Province, “Professional Scrutiny on Labour issues”.

According to Mr. Umair, this scheme will be implemented from next month on an experimental basis for a year.

After a year, it will be made compulsory.

Seven countries

The scheme of professional scrutiny will be for the seven countries from which many labourers come to Saudi Arabia. These countries are India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Egypt, Philippines and Bangladesh.

He informed that the fee for the verification of professions for foreigners who seek jobs in Saudi Arabia is from 450 to 600 Saudi Riyals whereas, for verifications done outside Saudi, it will be 100-150 Saudi Riyals.

Mr. Umair informed that initially, the scrutiny of professions will be implemented on plumber and electricians. Later, it will be gradually be extended to Air conditioning, Auto electrician, mechanic, carpenter, blacksmith, butcher and construction workers.
