Saudi Arabia: Outbreak of highly pathogenic bird flu virus reported

Riyadh: Outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N8 bird flu virus killed 22700 birds in Sudair, Central Riyadh.

Dr. Abdullah Abal Khail, Spokesman of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture informed that emergency teams controlled the outbreak by implementing effective measures.

It may be mentioned that last time outbreak of H5N8 virus took place in Saudi Arabia in July 2018.

H5N8 infects birds

Abal Khail claimed that the virus only infects bird. To support his claim, he quoted sources of World Health Organized (WHO).

He also asked poultry farmers to take utmost care.

Earlier, the virus was reported in London. However, it posed no threat to public health.

The toll from the novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak in China has climbed to 490, with 65 new fatalities.

The total number of confirmed cases has gone up to 24,324.
