SC declines urgent listing of ML Sharma’s plea seeking refund of fine

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined urgent listing of advocate ML Sharma’s plea seeking a refund of Rs 50,000 that he had deposited earlier for filing frivolous PIL against Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi had earlier imposed Rs 50,000 fine on the lawyer for naming Jaitley in his plea, wherein, he accused the minister of attempting to “plunder RBI’s capital reserves” to waive off loans to certain companies.

The apex court came down heavily on Sharma and slammed him for filing frivolous PIL against Jaitley, saying the Supreme Court registry will not accept any petitions from Sharma unless he pays a fine of Rs 50,000.

A two-judge bench of the apex court, headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi said, “We find no reason whatsoever to entertain this PIL”.
