Seattle City Council introduces resolution against CAA, NRC

Seattle: Seattle City Council introduced a resolution to express solidarity with Seattle South Asian Community regardless of religion, caste and to oppose India’s National Register of Citizen (NRC) and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019.

While introducing the resolution, Council Member, Kshama Sawant said that CAA and NRC are the policies of the far-right government.

NRC risks citizenship of 200 Million: Sawant

It is alleged that if it is implemented it will strip Citizenship of 200 million Muslims and others.

She alleged that the Modi government has a track record of promoting violence and discrimination towards Muslims and lower caste people.

The resolution will be moved for voting in the meeting of the council on 21st January.

Others express views against CAA, NRC

Javeed Sikander, a member of a group that works for peace, democracy and secularism in India supported the resolution. He said that if NRC is implemented, 250 million people will lose citizenship as more than half of the citizens do not have birth record of their parents.

Many other persons also expressed their views against CAA and NRC and supported the resolution.
