Shabana Azmi is stable, says hospital

Mumbai: Actor Shabana Azmi, who was injured in a road accident on Saturday, is stable and under medical observation.

“Veteran actor Shabana Azmi has been admitted at Kokilaben Ambani hospital. She is stable and under observation,” Dr Santosh Shetty, Executive Director and CEO of the hospital said in statement.

The actor met with a road accident on Mumbai-Pune expressway on Saturday afternoon and was shifted to Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai from MGM hospital where she was initially admitted.

According to doctors, she has suffered a head injury and there is slight damage to backbone.

Javed Akhtar received injuries

As per information, her car, in which her husband and National Award winning poet-lyricist Javed Akhtar was also travelling, rammed into a truck from behind on the highway on the Mumbai-Pune lane around 4.15 p.m

Luckily, Javed Akhtar escaped with minor injuries.

FIR lodged against Azmi’s driver

An FIR has been registered against actor Shabana Azmi’s driver, Amlesh Yogendra Kamat.

According to police, the complaint has been registered by Rajesh Pandurang Shinde, the truck driver as his vehicle was hit from behind by the Azmi’s car.

“Due to rash driving by the car’s driver, the car hit the moving truck on Pune-Mumbai Expressway which resulted in the accident,” the FIR copy read.

Modi wishes Azmi’s speedy recovery

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished Shabana Azmi’s speedy recovery.

Modi said in a tweet that the news of Shabana Azmi’s injury was distressing.

“The news of @AzmiShabana Ji’s injury in an accident is distressing. I pray for her quick recovery,” he said.

Swara Bhasker praying for Azmi’s recovery

Bollywood actress Swara Bhasker is praying for the speedy recovery of Shabana Azmi. Swara wrote: “Shabana Azmi injured in road accident on Mumbai- Pune Expressway. OMG! Praying so hard.”
