Sharjeel Imam was hiding wrapped in blanket: Police report

New Delhi: JNU research scholar Sharjeel Imam’s controversial remark on Assam has landed him behind bars after he was booked for delivering the inflammatory speech against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens.

A detailed report of Delhi Police’s Crime Branch hunt for Sharjeel Imam has been surfaced now.

Sharjeel Imam was arrested from ‘Imambara’ on January 28 after the Delhi Police took cognizance of his speech during the protest alleged to be inflammatory, imposing serious charges against him.

According to claims, Sharjeel was evading arrest by the police of Delhi, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Assam and that he could have fled from India.

However, amidst these claims, Imam’s brother, who was already in custody, hinted he was hiding in an ‘imambara’ near his home in Bihar’s Jehanabad district.

As soon as reports came, Delhi in a joint operation with Bihar Police carried out a raid at the ‘imambara’ and found Sharjeel hidden in a corner with a blanket wrapped around himself.
