Son murders father for a bottle of ‘Scotch’

Howrah:  A row over an expensive bottle of Scotch ended in son killing his own father in Howrah’s Dasnagar.

According to reports, things turned hostile between the father and duo when 26-year-old Mangal Das forcibly took an expensive Scotch from his father’s collection of premium scotch and single malt liquors, TOI reports.

When the 54-year-old Durgapada protested and tried to take back his Scotch bottle, the bottle fell and broke.

The furious youth thrashed his father after the bottled broke. Durgapada’s head hit against the door frame and he began to bleed profusely while the youth escaped.

Mangal’s younger brother spotted his brother escaping as he had just entered the room and informed the cops.

Meanwhile, Durgapada was rushed to Baltikuri government hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Later mangal was zeroed in and arrested from his friend’s place in Domjur.

“We have arrested Mangal Das on charges of murdering his father. The two had a fight over a bottle of liquor that allegedly led him to kill his father in a fit of rage,” said Sunil Yadav, deputy commissioner (south) of Howrah City Police.

According to reports, the deceased was a labour contractor and had a fascination for expensive liquor while Mangal was unemployed and a known drunkard in the area.

“On Thursday, he had fits asked money from his father to buy liquor but when he denied, he tried to take away a bottle from the father’s cellar,” said an officer of Dasnagar police station.
