SP announces 2 more candidates for LS polls in UP

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) on Tuesday released the list of two candidates for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Ramji Lal Suman will be the party candidate from Hathras (reserved) seat, while Rajendra S Vind will contest from Mirzapur constituency.

On March 8, the SP had announced nine candidates, including three women who will contest the Lok Sabha polls.

It has fielded party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav from Mainpuri parliamentary constituency.

SP has also fielded Mulayam’s two family members, namely, nephew Dharmendra Yadav from Badaun and senior party leader Ram Gopal Yadav’s son Akshay Yadav from Firozabad.

Apart from this, SP had also announced the candidates for three reserved constituencies-Itawa, Robertsganj, and Bahraich.

According to the list, Kamlesh Katheria will contest the Etawah reserved seat, Bhailal Kol has been fielded on Robertsganj reserved seat, and Shabbir Balmiki from Bahraich.

Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple Yadav will contest from Kannauj constituency, from where the 41-year-old has already been elected twice–in 2012 by-polls and 2014 general elections.

Purvi Verma has been fielded from Khiri constituency and Usha Verma from Hardoi.

Voting for the 17th Lok Sabha election will be held in seven phases beginning April 11. The final phase of voting will take place on May 19.

In Uttar Pradesh, seven-phase polling will take place in 80 Lok Sabha seats. The counting of votes will be done on May 23.
