Special court sentences rape convict life for impregnating girl

Palghar: A special court in Maharashtra’s Palghar has sentenced a 42-year-old rape convict to life imprisonment for repeatedly raping a Class 9 student, this neighbour.

Judge AU Kadam has convicted the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and also the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences or POCSO Act and imposed Rs.1000 fine too, NDTV reports.

Repeated sexual assault on the teenager impregnated her said the Additional public prosecutor.

The convict is a married man and has a son from his wife committed the in August 2016 multiple times when his wife and son had gone to their native place in Rajasthan told the Additional Public Prosecutor Jayprakash Patil.

The judge rejected the defence plea to show leniency towards the accused, who was the “sole breadwinner for his family”.

“The offence committed by the accused was disgusting and heinous against the girl who was a minor and intellectually weak. Therefore, the act of the accused does not deserve any leniency,” the judge said while pronouncing the verdict.

The court also directed payment of adequate compensation to the teen through the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).
