Student raped on picnic, harassed to have physical relationship

Palghar: A 23-year-old college student on a picnic was raped by a man at a resort in Goa.

The accused later threatened to post her obscene pictures he had clicked while committing the crime on social media if she refuses to have a physical relationship with him, TOI reports.

The accused from Palghar district in Maharashtra was booked under rape charges based on the victim’s complaint.

The complainant stated Haitik Bharat Shah a resident of Dahanu area who was studying at another institution had raped her first at a resort in Goa where she had gone for picnic earlier this year, a police spokesperson said.

He continued to rape her on several occasions by lack mailing her over the pictures added the spokesperson.

The victim also alleged that the accused forced her to sign some documents, including marriage registration papers.

He refused to remove the uploaded photograph of both of them as his WhatsApp profile picture and instead demanded Rs 25 lakh when she requested to remove them.

Unable to withstand the pressure, the victim finally approached the police against the accused on Tuesday.

A case was registered against the accused under Indian Penal Code Sections 376 (rape), 417 (cheating) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
