Suffering from paralysis, young Asiatic lion dies in Hyderabad

Hyderabad (Telangana): A five-year-old male Asiatic lion, who was suffering from paralysis, died due to multiple organs failure at Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Jeetu was suffering from Paraplegia (paralysis of hind legs) and was being treated for the last 12 days by the veterinarians.

The lion was unable to rise at its legs since July 8 and was under intensive care treatment at Summer House area of the park, officials said.

The zoo administration had sought the opinion of experts veterinarians for Jeetu’s treatment but he could not be saved despite extensive efforts.

A post-mortem was conducted which revealed that multiple organs failure and lesions were the cause behind Jeetu’s death. Samples were collected and sent to Veterinary Biological and Rech Institute, Shantinagar and Veterinary College, Rajendranagar for the confirmation.

Jeetu was born in the zoo on May 28, 2014, to the pair of Asiatic lions Atul and Jyothi. Atul died due to old age ailments last year.
