New Delhi: The number of scholarships to minority students increased during Modi Govt. when compared to UPA-II. During 2014-19, the number of minority candidates who received scholarship increased by 20 lakh. \n\n\n\nAccording to the report published in The Print, during 2014-19, 3.14 crore minority students received scholarship whereas, during UPA-II, 2.94 crore minority students had received it. \n\n\n\nIt may be mentioned that in 2014, Jain got the status of a minority community. Currently, the Ministry of Minority Affairs recognizes six minority communities i.e., Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Parsis and Jains. \n\n\n\nDuring 2014-19, 2.37 crore Muslim students received scholarship whereas, during UPA II, 2.33 crore Muslims got it. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Ministry of Minority Affairs\ngrants three types of scholarship, Pre-Matric, Post-Matric and Merit-cum-means.\n\n\n\nThe amount of scholarship to each students under post-matric scholarship scheme also increased from Rs. 23500 to Rs. 25000-26000.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe budget for the ministry\nincreased from Rs. 3511 crore in 2013-14 to Rs. 4700 crore in 2018-19.
